Join us for a virtual panel during your lunch hour Thursday, Sept. 12, to hear about how Star Tribune reporter Andy Mannix and photojournalist Renée Jones Schneider collaborated to produce MNSPJ’s 2024 Story of the Year, “What happened to Heather Mayer?“

Page One judges lauded the pair for their deep investigation of an often misunderstood community. The end result was a compelling narrative that treated survivors with dignity and respect, while also pointing out serious shortcomings in the criminal justice system.

From noon to 1 p.m., we’ll break down the story from its genesis to publication, talk about how to gain the trust of sources and hold a Q&A for other Minnesota journalists with questions about the reporting process.
